2/11 Cyanotype Workshop: Printing with Light Part I

  • Artpost 718 Iredell Street Durham United States (map)

Cyanotype: A photographic blueprint.

Cyanotype is a 170 year old photographic printing process that produces prints in a distinctive dark greenish-blue. The word “cyan” comes from the Greek, meaning  “dark blue substance.”

Fun fact: the color of cyanotypes resembled the uniforms of the Prussian Army, and so was created the color Prussian Blue! No darkroom is needed, instead it uses the power of the sun and iron salt solutions rather than the silver salt solution of black and white photography.

Learn the entire process of creating cyanotypes using cyanotype chemicals, found objects from nature (you can bring some favorites), and the sun!
